The Little Lion (lat. Leo Minor) is a faint constellation of the north. Precipua is the brightest star with a magnitude of 3.1, it is located on the eastern edge of the constellation. In Leo Minor numerous binary stars can be found.

How to spot Leo Minor

Leo Minor is surrounded by Leo, Ursa Major, Lynx and Cancer. With an area of 232 square degrees, it can be seen in the latitudes 90° North to 49° South in spring.


In 1687, Johannes Hevel, a Danzig astronomer, composed the constellation of faint stars between Leo and Ursa Major. He could recognize the stars by using a telescope.
